Did you ask this at Bobvilla and get the response that they didn't know? I just found this exact question there.
From my research, no one has mentioned the topic of installing a P-Trap backwards. Is there a special reason you want to? It doesn't seem like a normal request.
The lip is usually about 1.5'' and is visible from underneath, to my knowledge .
