Hi,
Did you ask this at Bobvilla and get the response that they didn't know? I just found this exact question there.
From my research, no one has mentioned the topic of installing a P-Trap backwards. Is there a special reason you want to? It doesn't seem like a normal request.
The lip is usually about 1.5'' and is visible from underneath, to my knowledge .
Answer this Question: "P-trap and Lip on drain"

P-trap and lip on drain
Can you install a bathroom P-Trap backwards?
What is a lip on a kitchen drain line and is this lip visible?
