Does coconut oil clog drains?

So, I’ve been using coconut oil on my hair but my dad said it will clog the drain when I wash it out. I know oil clogs drains but I only oil my hair once every 2 weeks and use about 1 tsp. I don’t want to give it up b/c it works well but will it do alot of damage to the shower drain?

Answer #1

Oil is not THAT thick, and your not using alot of it, your not doing it often either. So I think your shower drain will be fine. -.-

Answer #2

Eventually, yes, it will do damage. Same concept as putting any other oil down a sink drain when you cook, or grease.

Answer #3

Coconut oil is loaded with fats that can solidify when exposed to cooler temperatures, so - yes - it can clog the drain, but for the small amount you’ve been using, it’s highly unlikely.
