How do you know when a boiled egg is done?

How do you know when a boiled egg is done? How long does it take for a boiled egg to be done?

Hard boiled egg - 10 to 12 min after boiling begins
Soft boiled egg - 3-5 min after boiling begins

Some specialty stores sell a plastic 'egg' that changes color as it is in the boiling water, to indicate how 'done' the egg is.

you twirl it on the counter and if it goes in a complete circle with out wobbling, its done

yeah what everyone is sayin!!! if it can spin it's done. I usually boil mine for 20 minutes but that's just because I want mine to be completely done.
