How do I deal with my brother?

Asked by xxthatgirl 5 months ago, 9 answers.

My family doesn't have a lot of money. BUt my older brother does. He still lives at home. He's always coming home with new things. Wii, Nintendo DS, and just tonight.. A laptop. He gets everything he wants. I REALIZE THAT HE PAYS FOR IT. But I can't help but pretty much hate him for it. I don't get what I want. I don't even get what I need most of the time. My dad has said things to him before but my brother just says, 'Well, I pay for it.' Since I'm only 15, I can't get a job so I can't buy my own stuff. But he gets EVERYTHING he wants. If he wants something, he doesn't even think. He just buys it. I mean, he bought a laptop when he already has a computer.

He's 19 by the way.

How do I deal with this? What can I do so I don't get so jealous.

You can get a job.
Simple as that.
Most any grocery store, paper delivery, local business, etc.
Look around more.

I've applied.
No one's hiring.
So I can't.

Not until the summer.

Well then wait it out.
Things always get better.
It isn't the best answer, but just think of all the sh*t your brother deals with in his job to get the money for these great things.

Dear xxthatgirl,
There is lots you can do from babysitting to delivering papers. It's normal for you to be jealous of your brother. What isn't normal that your brother who lives at home can afford all this stuff. If he has so much money he should be living on is own unless he is helping out at home with the rent, food etc. If he is doing this then there should be money for your needs and some of your wants. So we don't know what the situation is but some thing isn't right.
Sue...good luck

Actually, sue90.

HE makes more an hour than my dad.
He doesn't help pay at all.
When my dad asks him to help out, he fights about it.
HE doesn't care that we almost lost our house.

There's the situation.
=\

what a selfish young man maybe he needs a reality check your parents should probably give him a choice either help out with financial matters or learn to stand on his own 2 feet by moving out into his own flat then he can buy what he wants without hurting anyones feelings

I would consider waiting till the summer to get a job, and doing well in school,so when you can go out and get a job, your job is AMAZING and you will have MUCH more money than your brother, and maybe even your own place, but if he has all this money for all this stuff, then why is he still living at home? haha think about it..
