Is Hinduism polytheistic or monotheistic?

is henduism polythistic or monothistic

Answer #1

Hinduism is a diverse system of thought with beliefs spanning monotheism, polytheism, panentheism, pantheism, monism and atheism. It is sometimes referred to as henotheistic (devotion to a single “God” while accepting the existence of other gods), but any such term is an oversimplification of the complexities and variations of belief.

Answer #2

I guess its kinda like it was in Pauls day, when he preached on Mars Hill.

Answer #3

Hinduism is monotheistic. There is One supremem being that takes many forms. Not many gods. Just one. Christianity is also monotheistic. One God, different forms (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). The demons and angels are not considered deities by any means.

Answer #4

In Hinduism Brahman is cosmic spirit and absolute reality.

Hinduism has a whole pantheon of gods but each of these can be viewed as different aspects of Brahman.

In my book Hinduism is polytheistic. Some might argue the concept of Brahman makes Hinduism a monotheistic religion.

One could make the argument that Christianity is a polytheistic religion as well. The angels and demons of Christianity could be considered demi- or lesser gods.
