Credit scores aren't usually free, because the Federal Trade Commission allows credit reporting agencies to charge a nominal amount for the credit score. You can get your credit report for free from http://www.annualcreditreport.com.

If you want to get your credit score for free, there are several ways to get it:
- from a lender, when you're applying for a loan
- from a lender who denied your credit application
- from a credit card company whom you have a credit card with, if the company offers this privilege
- from a credit agency with whom you signed up for a credit monitoring plan

You can find more information about that here: http://www.howtoestablishgoodcredit.com/free_fico_score.htm
