The number one way to raise your credit score is to pay all your bills on-time. Get a copy of your credit report and check it for errors. If there is something incorrect that is dragging your credit rating down you need to try to get this corrected. If your debt ratio is high (the amount of debt compared to how much you earn) than paying things off should help. Be careful about closing old accounts. Eliminating credit cards you no longer use seems like a good idea but it can lower your score by increasing the amount of your total credit you are using. Also canceling cards can reduce the amount of credit history you have. If you do cancel credit cards make sure that your credit report says that the credit card was cancelled at your request. If creditors do not see this they will assume the issuer closed the account because you didn't honor the terms of your credit agreement. The longer you have been at your current residence and job the better; if you have been at either < 2 years this will hurt your score. Also be very careful about applying for new credit. Every time you apply for credit it shows up on your credit report and every applicaiton can lower your score.
