Normally your computer performs many tasks at once. It does this by performing a little bit of a task each time and switching back and forth between tasks to do all of them.
Now normally, you have one processor which has to do all those tasks, so a dual core processor is like hiring someone else to help you. Both processors will manage that pool of tasks simultaneously, and you will get a faster user experience.
Hyperthreading simulates this effect with one processor, while dual core processors actually have 2 processor cores. Some dual core processors share a single L2 cache while other processor cores each have their own l2 cache.
Dual core is always a better and faster buy than hyprethreaded processors.

What is the advantage of having a dual core processor as oppose to having a processor with hyper-threading ? Also is it true that each core in the dual core processor has its own L2 cache ? Please advice as I am looking to make a purchase very soon.
