It depends on what connections your computer video card has and what connections yout TV has. The last TV I purchased had all kinds of inputs: antenna/cable coax, s-video, composite video, component video, hdmi, VGA (mini D15) and DVI. My laptop and desktop only has VGA so were I connecting to them my only choice would be VGA cables. My work laptop has both VGA and DVI so in this case I'd be better off using a DVI cable. Some computers these days have hdmi connections would are nice in that one cable carries both high definition video and audio.
