Why is my dogs fur falling out?

Recently we have noticed that near my dogs bum she has fur that looks a lighter colour..it sort of looksbrowny/grey but she is a black dog… When we touch this bit of fur clumps of it comes out…and more and more comes out..it wont stop..she isnt going bald or anything though..

I heard it could be because she is eating too much dry food…but my dog only eats the soft wet meat..

We thought maybe its because she rubs herself against things or because the way she sits…

It is the TOP of her bottom..lol…well…kinda too the side of it.. She is a lab/collie.. Anyone know why this is happening?

I have the EXACT same problem with my black lab/german shepherd mix. But it is the dead of winter! It’s January in Indiana. All over his rear sides he has clumps of hair that appears lighter than the rest of his black coat and it is falling out in clumps, but no bald spots. Any other ideas?

dogs shed in different seasons and if the dog is under a year old they tend to loose there puppy fur and get adult fir

Answer #4

Sounds like her undercoat is shedding…try brushing her every couple of days. If you think her coat seems dry, feed Omega’s via Fish Oil caps (you can get them at Walmart, and they are very inexpensive)…

She’s probably shedding her winter coat. It’s normal. Brush her to help get rid of it or even take her to a god groomer. They shed the winter coat so they aren’t as hot in the summer time. ..

Answer #6

since its summer time (here anyway) dogs start to lose the winter fur in a few days its gonna get worse and youll have hair all over, either comb it out once it starts to get loose or go get the dog a full body shave…

Answer #7

I agree with dopi…that sounds about right.

But get her some brewer’s yeast in any case…to improve the condition of her coat.

Answer #8

Dogs shed their fur when the seasons change.

Answer #9

I think it could be her winter under coat coming out. its that time of year.

I’m having same problem with my chihuahua. The fur on each side of her hind area lost it’s color(turned from choco brown to blonde), luster, and falls out very easily in clumps. But she has no bald spots. I’m taking her to the vet to get it checked out. I hope she’s only shedding her winter coat. This has been going on for a couple weeks.
