Why does it hurt during sex?

It is true that sometimes the hymen doesn’t rip properly and so sex hurts… Sometimes a doctor needs to actually physically cut it. But this happens in very rare cases.

Yes it is normal to not have bled the first time you had sex (although that probably means your hymen was not intact…)

You could have Vaginismus or Dyspareunia, they’re two types of sexual disorders related to pain. If it is neither of these, it could be a physical problem. Since you’re pregnant and are going to be seeing an ob gyn anyways, perhaps you should mention it and they can check to see what is wrong.

Dear vickysticky1990, It is highly and almost impossible for your hymen to be intact and pregnant. There have been reported cases where the hymen has recovered from a tear but it’s so unlikely. Many women have no hymen by the time they first have sex due to it being ripped during sports, exercise or tampon use. Having pain during sex can signal a problem. This is something you should see a doctor about. If you are relaxed, comfortable with your partner and well lubricated and still have pain it could be a medical condition. Sue…good luck
