Why do audiophiles complain about mp3 file quality?

I understand that mp3 files sound compressed when played over headphones, but so do any type of sound file to me. However, when mp3 files are played over a boombox or stereo system via an adapter cable attached to an mp3 or iPod or CD, they sound just as full and rich as any other type of musical medium. Why all the complaints from audiophiles?

Then your not listening through a good system. I don’t know how to explain it, but if you have a nice reciever some good stand alone speakers, a seprate sub, a nice center channel you can deffinitly tell the difrence between a cd and a mp3 player pluged in with an adapter.
