Why did they stop making 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (in the U.S)?

I love the programme WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? The american version particulary ;) It’s repeated on Five U.S everyday. But I was wondering, does anybody know WHY it stopped being made? Thanks x

it was a classic show but they canceled it due to ryan stiles looking for a permanent part on two and a half men which he then was replaced by jon cryer and made a minor character in herb melnick

I love that show too! The American version was cancelled by ABC in 2003 because of low ratings; the network aired the remaining unaired episodes in 2004. In that same year, the ABC Family cable network, which had been airing repeats of the show since 2002, began showing brand-new episodes. New episodes appeared into 2005. ABC Family also played episodes cobbled together from unused footage of older recordings from 2005 to 2006.
