There might be nothing wrong with the ipod, it might just be the earphones. As for songs changing it might be that the litlle cirlce things where you change songs ( :P) Is brocken.

try another ipod or even a cd player or stereo system with a headphone plug to check the earphones. as for the song changing try to see if the circle thingy is broken by sitting down, laying the ipod on the table flat, and trying it out. Don’t move it or let it move, and see if it does anything. If it works properly and doesn’t do anything that you mentioned above, something is wrong with whatever senses buttons being pressed, which with an ipod commonly being in a pocket or a purse, its probably dirty in there and not making proper contact. If the unit got wet recently it there could be a short circuit causing the song changing problem. If its been dropped a lot that could have broken something inside.

First, try the earphones in something else. If they still do what they’re doing, that means they’re no good (damaged wire, blown out, etc.)

If they work, take a Q-Tip or cotton swab, put a little tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on one end, and stick it gently into the hole that the headphones plug into on the ipod. stick it in twist it around and pull it out, as dirty as it sounds haha. Take the other end of the cotton swab and dry it out, which will also take anything else out that needed to soak in the alcohol for a second to break free of the little plastic walls. If the headphones then work, but the unit is still acting screwy, shake it to see if anything rattles. If anything rattles, it could be a little peice of dirt or something that broke inside of it, hopefully though its the dirt. I’ve never taken an Ipod apart before, but I imagine that all that would be in there is at least 4 wires, a battery, a screen, and a female connector for the charger. Take a thin flathead screwdriver, and carefully pry the unit apart. Then with everything carefully taken out, don’t break any of the wires that are soldered to anything, cause those are a pain to fix, take more q tips and gently clean the computer chip with rubbing alcohol. You don’t need to wipe these dry cause they are more resistant to dirt than the headphone jack, and the alcohol evaporates anyways. Take special note where the buttons are; usually the sensors for the buttons are goldish colored circle thingies with squiggly lines in them. Clean those, even if you see nothing on the Q tip it might be juuust enough to get r done. :)

Carefully reassemble, taking note what goes where, and hopefully it’ll work afterwards. Good luck. :)
