Making a deal with someone where you both get a little of what you want. Say you want to paint the walls pink and your friends wants to paint them blue, so you compromise by painting them half pink, half blue (but that would be really weird). You both give up a little and get a little.

it means open to mistakes. In this case, you may not be talking about emotions, as much as errors. Here is another example : “When my husband cheated on me, he compromised our relationship.” In this case we are saying that the mistake (cheating) made the relationship weak. Does that make sense?
