What should my horror story be about?

I am writing a horror short story for my english class and I am totally clueless on what it should be about. We are kind of relating it to Edger Allen Poe’s Style of writng. Any ideas would be much appriciated(:

Vampires, werewolves, any other less famous mythological horror creature (and there are a lot) Things that are not particulare scary but still bring goosebumps to your skin. (as Edgar was prone to) Think about what frightens you and try making your worst nightmare come true.
