What is this creature on my dog ?

That would be a tick.

They leech onto the dog, and suck its blood. Ticks left on the animal can cause a variety of diseases, some of them will kill your dog.

To remove the tick, get a pair of tweezers and latch onto it, under the middle part of its body. You MUST make sure the head of the tick is removed, as oftentimes, it breaks off and the head stays burrowed. This will cause infection.

Your dog should be on a monthly tick and flea preventative medication. Frontline, Advantage, and Revolution are some common brands. There is also a very effective tick collar called Preventic that can be put on the dog, and will kill ticks for 3 months at a time.

As a dog owner, it’s your responsibility to protect your pet against these disease-carrying creatures.
