  Most times "normal grip" is when the thumb of grasping hand is pointing towards the contacting side of the Ping-Pong mallet (paddle is parallel with Ulna bone in arm, coming out past your thumb). Backhand grip I'd imagine means a person is grasping the paddle so that the paddle is sticking out from the Pinky end of the user’s hand.
