What / Is my laptop bad for me?

I am on my laptop for about 5 hours a day, sitting it on my lap. Every night it charges under my bed and I sleep less than a meter above it.

I’m worried that it could give me cancer or something. Are there any known problems with being close to a computer all the time? I’ve heard that laptops aren’t as bad as actual desktop computers but still, I am very worried for my health. If it makes any difference, Its a macbook.

Unlikely, the most dangerous forms of radiation are ionizing radiations (X- and gamma rays) because they are energetic enough to dislodge electrons and alter molecular structure and your laptop doesn’t produce these. The frequencies of radiation produced by your laptop are not intense and are at frequencies that harmlessly pass through you instead of being absorbed.

In general non-ionizing radiation not powerful enough to cause heating is not considered dangerous. There is some anecdotal evidence that radiation from cell phones and from living under power lines increases the risk of cancer but theoretically it should cause no harm. No causal relationship has been shown. People who use cell phones a lot and who live under power lines do have higher rates of cancer but there is no way to know if it is the radiation that is causing this or that the type of people who use cell phones a lot or live under power lines are more prone to cancer for other reasons (stress or socioeconomic status for example).

5 hours only? I’ve been up since 6am and its now 10:30 and I’ve been sitting infront of my PC for them 4.5 hours and ill be on and off till around 22:30 when ill watch a film then get my head down…

so summet like 15 hours ill be at my PC through out the day.

yes the internet is full of stories about laptops increasing the risk of cancer but theres no evidence of this… my mom works from home and is on her works laptop for sometimes 10+ hours a day.

if you had the laptop to your ear then that might be cause for concern (just like phones)

but theres no hard evidence to back this up and from what I know theres been no accounts of people getting cancer from using laptops/pcs.. so where the hell do the stories come from? over adventurous teenagers with nothing better to do would be my guess

im not sure about the studies of laptops and cancer I know of the ones with cellphones though I would recomend not keeping it on your lapand perhaps having a desk to put it on that way your sitting up straight and not hunching over which could hurt your back I personally would also recomend a plug in mouse that way your fingers get a bit less sore and tired and remember to take a break at least every 30 minutes for at least a minute and look at something in the distance, this will prevent your eyes from hurting
