Ice packs are usually the trick, but if you hurt it yesterday, then the swelling has already set in.

Keep it elevated and if you seem to have trouble moving it, you should go to the hospital and see if it’s broken.

I broke my finger and I thought it was just swollen and it healed on its own kinda weird like if I put my hand up it looks different. I would recommend going to the doctor if the swelling hasn’t gone down in a few days. All you can do is not move it to much and hold ice on it

You won’t believe this but I read your question and thought I’d learn something new from the answers - well I did not. Ice - I go to bed every night with two ice packs, the kind you put in coolers, to lay my ankles on. This has been for about 10 or 11 years. It kills the pain and allows me to sleep. I do take aspirin also but it’s the ice pack that kills the pain

Since you did it yesterday, the swelling should have maximized by now. Ice will help reduce the pain but soaking it in warm water, maybe with some epsom salt, will help start reducing the swelling. Soak it for 30 minutes a couple times a day.

If it feels like you broke anything, then check in with your doctor.
