What does this funny phrase by Ben Franklin mean?

“We were all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.”- Benjamin Franklin What does it mean? I want to include it in the graduation speech I’m writing, so I need to know if it fits the context. Thanks in advance

Ignorant is basically uneducated overall, which we are when we’re born.

Stupid define itself as: ‘’lacking or marked by lack of intellectual acuity’’ or basically, lacking intelligence. In this world, it’s hard not to learn about something everyday as each day is in fact new and provides new experiences whether you notice them or not. Too remain as ignorant as you where at birth, that would be ridiculously challenging. I’m not sure if it would fit the context to well but I haven’t seen your speech so I can only go by the qoute. Either way, it’s best to ask someone that has read or you can show your speech too. That way you can get a better opinion.

I’m not sure if I’m right about this quote but I tackled it the best I could so I hope I helped. If anyone can correct me, feel free to do so :)

Many people choose to be ignorant so they can feel that they know everything. Most people call this closed-mindedness.
