What does face blind mean?

Answer #1

“Face Blind” is a misnomer for Prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia is a condition in humans which has only one symptom: the inability to remember human faces. People with PA can see faces perfectly well. Most can identify gender, emotions, age, etc., just as well as anyone else. Some Prosopagnosics cannot recognize any face, including their own, and some, with milder symptoms can remember some, but not most faces. Most have the condition from birth. These are hereditary PAs or developmental PAs (now being studied to determine if they are the same thing). Others are aquired PA’s which means they have had a head injury, a stroke, alzheimer’s or some other related brain problem. Recent (2006) research estimates that approximately 2% of the population may be affected with Prosopagnosia. For more information, visit http//:www.findaface.org.
