The person referred to has caused the writer pain in some way…that pain proves to the writer that he/she is still alive, and therefore, still has a chance to overcome the pain.

That’s really hard to explain, okay, let’s try… Well in order for something to burn it needs a flame and without that flame it wouldn’t be burning. So someone could mean like “without you I couldn’t live”. I think-ish? I know what I mean but I cant get to right words out haha
