Be sure and take him in for a health check…if he’s wormy, the Vet can give you EXACTLY the type and dose or wormer he needs. Dachshunds are prone to be overweight…therefore, I’d think just put him on a good quality food, feed him the amount recommended, and within a couple of weeks you’ll see a big difference. Don’t overfeed…if he’s been starved you could make him sick.

The dog might need to be dewormed, which is easy to do. Any bet can help you with that and you can even buy deworming stuff at pet stores. If the dog has worms it will be skinny no matter how much it eats.

As for getting over the abuse and beatings in the past, it just takes time. Just be gentle with him and he will gradually get better as he learns to trust you.

I had one of those, he was a miniture smooth haired, and we beefed him up a bit by feeding him tripe (which all dogs love!) and he had lots of tip bits, like liver pate!!

Watch it though, as they arent meant to be too chubby, they are meant to be little lean machines that get in and out of rabbit holes!! (well, thats what they were bred for anyway!)
