What are some FREE virus scans and can remove all the threats? and it's not a fraud
Misstmcl4jd,
Maybe you didn't have all the settings correct on AVG or have it scanning daily.
I've used AVG for several years without any problem. I always update to the latest version and keep it updated. Mine runs a complete scan everyday from midnight to about six a.m. (It takes that long because it is scanning over 1 million items on my machine. At least I can still use the computer, if I'm up at that time, while the scan takes place.)
In fact this morning's scan picked up three Trojan Horses which it automatically disposed of. My machine occasionally picks up virus' and Trojans because there are several different people who use the computer.
I used to scan only once a week, on Tuesdays. However, back on Monday the 24th of November someone used the computer and downloaded several programs. It just happened that at midnight my Tuesday scan took place. When I reviewed the scan results I discovered that AVG had detected and removed SEVEN Trojans. I there upon decided that my AVG would automatically scan daily instead of weekly.
AVG also automatically scans every email as it is being downloaded to make sure they don't have a virus included.

You should have a good anti-virus program that you run at least once a week (daily if other people use your computer or you do a lot of browsing and downloading on the net).
You should also have a good spyware program which you should run at least once a week.
You should also have a good Registry Cleaner program which you should run at least once a week.
I use all of the programs listed below. Besides being good programs, and FREE, you also have the ability to continue working on your computer (online or offline) while the program is running.
AVG is a FREE anti-virus program that is excellent

I used to think that AVG and aVast and all these anti virus software programs is very good and I always had it on my pc. Then I got a WIN32 Worm/trojan that almost wrecked my pc.
One of the best Anti Virus softwares I have come accross is BitDefender. You can download a trail and there are millions of cracks for all of the versions.
Another one that I am currently running would be Norton 360. Yes I know what everyone thinks of Norton and a few years ago I could relate to that. But after the 2009 version I have never had a problem. the new version of Norton 360 was also released not to long ago. Norton 360 2.0.
But at the end of the day the best prevention for losing data would be a backup. I would recomend Symantec Backup Exec System recovery for Desktop. This is excelent software and it works extremely well with Norton and other anti virus software like End Point and Multi tier.
But if you need any further info regarding the above, dont hesitate to contact me.

I have tried tons of programs and I think Ethmer's list is pretty spot on as thats pretty much what I use.
I think Spybot is superb for a free program and AVG serves me very well on my 3 computers.
Its always good idea to have 2-3 programs as 1 always ends up missing something or another, its just finding ones that dont hog all the resources and slow the pc to a halt
I had AVG before and it was absolutely useless. now I use avast and spybot search and destroy, two very good programmes, infact, they saved my laptop just last week from a very serious virus
