How can I get my friend to understand the danger of online dating?

About 3 years ago I met a guy named Ronan on a chat site. he was unbelievebly amasing, and he was only 18! He was from India and he was soo Romantic and sweet and he wrote stroies, just like me. For a year i told him everything, he was my go to person for all my problems, we talked every day on msn and he helped me on some of my stories. I really liked him. But then i met his friend, and me and her got along. but one day she told me that i need to ask him the truth about him. So i did. Turned out, he was some 40 year old man who was married with 2 kids, one of them my age. I was so scared i didn’t know what to do. I deleted him off my msn, and off my facebook. Well my best friend was on a chat site today, and she met a guy named Travis from Florida. She has been texting him off my cell all day. I told her to be carefull because she never knows who he could be. She doesn’t even know his age! But she wont listen to me. I went through their conversation to find that she is telling him that she just turned 18! she hasn’t even turned 16 yet! She is so hung up on this guy, she has been glued to my phone since she met him. And i really dont like it. I dont wanna be like ‘dont touch my phone’ so she cant talk to him, because she would find a way to talk to him. She has no clue what he looks like or what age he is. But they are talking about going to see eachother and everything like that after about 4 hours of playing truth. She wont listen and i dont want to see her as hurt as I was, and i know she will fall for this guy. What should i do?

dont let her use your phone. yah, she probobly can find another way to talk to him, but if you let her use YOUR phone then it seems like your okay with all of this. and try showing her oter stories about things like this. because i agree with you completely! he is a complete stranger and she doesnt know who he is. but i dont think you can convince her right away..

You really need to talk some sense into her!! Try telling her that story you experienced, it sure hell scared me, could scare her off too. There are many cases like this on the news that end up bad, you should NEVER give out personal info online, or get too hooked, most just paly out lives that don’t belong to them and are far diffrent from who they actually are. Such as you’ve learned the hard way! I’ve actually gone through the same thing before a few years back, he pretended to be my age (17 at the time)… He played it real well, till I caught on since he’d text and bbm me all through out school hours, then he came clean and told me he was 30 and married!! I was like whooooaaa!! I was grateful he came clean, but was disturbed as you were. Blocked and deleted from bbm and my cell number!!

Don’t let you friend use your cell and most deffinetly don’t let her meet this guy, you never know what he has planed in his head!! It’s wrong!! You need to tell this guy off, tell him your friend is underage and as a good friend you’re there to look out for her, then delete him! Yes, you friend will be pissed, but continue talking some sense into her, once she sees the danger in this fun of hers, she’ll get it and thank you :)

just dont let her use her phone if she finds another way to talk to him its her problem and she will have to learn the hard way.

The best way you can do it, in my opinion, is expose him if he is a liar. It’s extremely easy to do so, nowadays. If she listens to him and not you, then maybe she’ll realize later on how stupid her decision was. Don’t know what else to do, but I’d do it.

go rent the movie strange land. its got dee snider from the band twisted sister in it. its about a girl who meets a guy online and gets kidnapped. its wayy graphic. my parents made me watch it before i was allowed to have internet. it scared the crap out of me. and its so creepy it could be real
