S.A.T’s was a sinch back then I aced both catergories. English and in Mathematical parts. Above average. I this a put-down comment? I am not sure. I just thought I could share but don’t let any one down. A message to all. Don’t drop out. You think of it, but do it. How’s that?

Answer #3

Okay its not really a put down… but how long ago was that? wen u took it…

Okay, here’s what I think of all that and some info on how I did, just for context. Please don’t see this as bragging, just trying to provide concrete information.

I took the SATs my senior year in 2006. I took them twice; I got 680 on math first, which was horrible because I’m into math (and was applying for top math/computer science programs). I took it again and got 800. I got 750 and 770 on reading and the top score on writing both times because I had an amazing high school English teacher the year before who prepared us really well. When I took the PSATs, I thought they were pretty easy, but I practiced A LOT. About an hour a day for a few weeks leading up to that. I ended up getting the national merit finalist scholarship. I wouldn’t say PSATs are indicative of what SATs are like. You have more sections, and it seems to last forever. If you get off on the wrong foot and ruin your attitude, it’s really hard to get up from that; that’s how I did so badly (relative to what I needed for my college goals) on math the first time around.

If you have the right mindset going in, it’s not a problem, though (besides the SAT’s I also had to take two SAT subject tests in math and chemistry, both of which I aced, and I really don’t think it had all that much to do with how well I knew the subjects.)

I really recommend doing everything you can to make yourself zen the day of SATs: don’t stay up late the night before, don’t break up with your significant other or get in a new relationship right beforehand, try to wean yourself off coffee (if applicable) for a few weeks before and get some coffee the morning of to put an extra spring in your step.

Ultimately, it’s a ridiculous test; it just tests your ability to prepare yourself for an arbitrary and pointless exercise. So if you want to do well, just prepare for it for what it is - something silly you have to do reasonably well to help open doors for yourself.
