What I want is different.

I want to be a theatre major but my dad says that’s useless. I don’t want what he wants for me. What do I do to follow MY dreams?

I suggest a double major. One of them can be theatre, and if your career takes off, then great! The other can be something to earn a living while you try to make a go of theatre.

I go to Ithaca College in Ithaca NY which has a fantastic theatre program. A lot of people get careers after they have finished school here but to be honest its VERY low wages and hardly worth the 40k+ it costs to go to school. Do theatre MANAGEMENT and you have FAR better wages and opportunities. Also you can always perform in what you manage! Its possible!
