The cyst that was a baby!

Just a bit of a strange story and wanted to get your opinions on it.

One of my friends who is 18, a few months back was feeling a little ill, she went to the hospital and they told her she had a syst in her stomach. She began putting on weight but she asumed it was the syst, the doctor also proscribed her several different types of drugs to treat the syst.

Three days ago my friend gave bitrh to a baby boy not knowing she was pregnant she went into labour thinking she was dying. Throughout her pregnancy she had all of her periods and did not suffer with any morning sickness.

She is attempting to sue the hospital as the medications she was given to treat a syst that wasnt there could have been harmful to her and her baby.

A few questions really, do you think she is right for taking legal action? has this ever happened to you or anyone you know? And if you where in this situation how do you think you might feel and react?

I believe she should take legal action as a doctor he obviousy didnt examine her thouroly enough if he didnt detect the extra heart beating inside of her, He proscribed very heavy medication that she did not need so basically she was high off perscription drugs all through her pregnancy this could have been harmful to her and the baby. Also if the pregnancy had been detected (which she didn’t because she was still having her periods as normal) she may have decided to have an abortion. She said she never wanted children till she was much older. Obviously now that he is here she Is thrilled but thats another thing to take into account.

This did happen to someone I know.

She had a baby girl who, regrettably, died 2 months later because my friend was not given proper prenatal care.

My friend did not take legal action, but I think this is something that could hold up well in court. I think the hospitals are so quick to dismiss patients because of overload that they miss some very important signs.

If the baby is healthy, she may not have a case (after all, women have been having healthy babies naturally long before medical science was introduced)…but if the baby has something wrong, then that could lead to a malpractice suit.

Wow, thats what you call a suprise! Bless her heart.

Hmm I don’t know what kind of doctor she went to when she started to feel sick and what not, but everytime I’ve been to the doctor when im sick usually one of the first things that they rule out is whether im pregnant or not, it’s a pretty common thing to be tested for when at the doctor.

Im sure if she is going to take legal action her attorney can give her a little more insight on this matter. If I was in her position I would DEFINATLY look into taking legal action! Not just because of what just happened to me but if the Doctor is mis-diagnosing people and treating them for something they do not have I would want other to know about it before more harm is done. I would get the doctor for malpractice…

Wish her and the baby good health!

As far as we know they are fine, the baby was 9lb’ 6 so how they didn’t notice him in there I dont know! x

Answer #5

“Actually I don’t think she has the right to take legal action because she went to the hospital herself to see what was in her stomach and she didn’t know she was pregnant”

I’m sorry, but that makes no sense.

Everyone goes to the hospital when they don’t know what’s wrong - it’s the doctor’s job to do the tests to determine what the problem is. Failure to do that is malpractice.
