KISS wasn’t racist at all. Their logo has nothing to do with being racist. They were just looking for a cool logo that would get people’s attention.

I read in Gene Simmon’s auto-biography that when they were forming the band that they auditioned several guitar players before finally deciding on Ace Frehley. One of the ones that auditioned was turned down because he was black. Gene Simmons said that he felt terrible about doing it, but he discussed it with the band and they all mutually agreed that this black guitar player just didn’t fit the look they were going for which was “The Beatles on steroids”. It would have been funny if that black guitarist turned out to be Prince. I would be feeling mighty sheepish if I were KISS if that turned out to be true. Just speculating though. Ace Frehley himself came up with the KISS logo himself and said that they were meant to be 2 lightning bolts or so he says. I also read the auto-biography that Ace Frehley had an obsession with Nazi memorabilia and would, when he was drunk, dress in replica Nazi uniforms and make anti-semitic remarks along with other perverted things. It got so bad that the other members nicknamed Ace Frehley, “Race” Frehley. This stalled any plans I had on rekindling my interest in KISS. Reading the Gene Simmons book had too many unsavory things in it and the thing about turning down the black guitarist was the final straw. I don’t want to knock KISS for anyone that loves their music. They are a great band, but I think I’ll pass. In my opinion, yes, they are racist based on what I read. I don’t know why Gene Simmons would write about these events. They sure are a turn off and not a way to attract new fans.

Besides, KISS wasn’t a racist band. If so, wouldn’t that be shown in the content of their songs?
