What are the dangers in getting a piercing or tattoo during your pregnancy?

Answer #1

The ink from your tattoo will go into your bloodstream and therefore will end up in your babies bloodstream. I wouldn’t get a tattoo until after the baby is born. I don’t see the problem with a piercing though. Talk to the piercer first about any precautions that need to be taken. Sam

just wait until you had your kid

I am pregnant and I have a LOT of tattoos, I also apprenticed for almost 9 months to become a tattoo artist, but have a hard time hurting people.

So this is why you should not get body art during pregnancy:

  1. You are growing a human, your body needs all of it’s strength to do that, healing a tat or piercing takes away from that strength.
  2. Your body, when you are pregnant speeds up the healing process, it will often reject a piercing and force the ink out, instead of healing around it. I can vouch for that, because I got pregnant while in the process of healing a large tattoo, the places that still had a scab, do not have ink anymore, while the rest is fine.
  3. If you get an infection either from the shop, or at home while healing, there is a big risk of that infection harming your baby’s development.

Hope that helps.

Answer #4

the ink does not enter your bloodstream. but any contaminant on a piercing will.

a respectable shop, would not, should not do any kind of work on you while you are pregnant.
