What's so bad about being Tasmanian?

someone who use to be my friend anyways tries to make stupid comments to me cause I’m Tasmanian, really i don’t get why considering we’re still Australian. so If anyone has a good reason to hate us then comment below

Answer #1

It’s cause everyone forgets about you guys, and it seems pretty boring down there. Also, you guys don’t have a footy team either, and its slightly a bit of a b!tch getting there too. I dont mind you guys.

Answer #2

You are misunderstanding this, baby. It is common practice everywhere in the world to mock on your neighbors. The Norwegians make stupid comments about the Swedish, The English tell dumb jokes about the Scottish, The Dutch make stupid comments about the German and the US-American tell dumb jokes about the Canadian and the Mexican. Germans tell Jokes about Austrians.

And not only among nations… You will find plenty of towns where they make stupid comments about the people next town. You will find people from some region of any nation mocking folks from another part. You will find the western Turkish people mocking the Anatolian eastern Turkish. You will find people from New York mocking people from New Jersey. Region rivalry.

Everyone has a well tended, elaborate set of dumb stereotypes. And as long as it stays playful mockery, jokes and dumb comments, I don’t see anything bad in it.

As soon as people start believing in their stereotypes and discriminating against people because of these stereotypes, stuff gets tough. But really, has it ever been any real trouble between you and the continental Australians? Probably not.

So laugh at it and give ‘em roo-riders a good comeback. Your canoe sports club kicked their canoe clubs asses? Mention it. With a smirk. They have bad weather while yours is good. “See, even the weather hates YOUR region.”

That’s how you play that game.

Answer #3

the person I was talking about makes it’s personal it’s not just some stereotype thing. Cause he knows it’s pisses me off that why he makes the comments. and your right. thanx a heap n.n

Answer #4

Then tell him/her that he/she pisses you off. And if he/she doesn’t stop, invent something that pisses him/her off. Or steer clear of the person. Or decide that he/she is a dumb-ass and that everything he/she says is ultimately stupid, ridiculous and so far below you that you never, ever even need to think about it whether it has any emotional effect on you.

Answer #5

From what I’ve heard, it’s because someone made up a joke a long time ago about Tasmania being a small place, so there musn’t be many people there and therefore everyone is inbred. My Dad’s from Hobart and I hate it when people say mean things about you guys and always stick up for you. I used to live there and it’s a beautiful place so don’t take their stupid jokes to heart. :)
