how do i stop installing updates on windows 7?

it always updates everyday, even if i set it to only once a week

open windows update - look on the left hand side and see ‘change settings’ - now, under ‘important updates’ in the drop down menu select ‘never check for updates.’

I keep mine set for “Check for updates and notify”. I don’t like it d/l updates when I’m in the middle of something, and I don’t always want all the updates.

But you should still do the updates every now and then as there are a lot of important security holes fixed by them.

I would set it to notify you when there are critical updates, as there are updates that are required by the user to have in order to install certain future updates. Also, not installing certain updates leaves the OS vulnerable to holes that have been exploited, where a hotfix has been released to close the hole. If you do decide to keep it turned off, i’s best to check it every few weeks to make sure you’re not missing out on anything important.
