What are some similarities and differences between The Sound of Music and West Side Story?

it is because I have a essay on this as a final for my music class but the thing is we only got halfway through the movies so I don’t know what to write about… please help!

heres apart of the assignment: compare and contrast the function of music in both musicals. How is the music specifically used? consider the following possible functions: -emphasize/highlight a specific emotion -fowarding the storyline/plot -background music for a specific scene -help provide insight into a characters’ thoughts/emotions

well, theyre both musicals. they both have wonderful scores written for them, and great singing. the sound of music is more of a family story, while west side story is a variation of romeo and juliet. i personally love both of them. sound of music is a lot longer than west side story. they have differnt composers, but somewhat similar tastes in the music. also, the sound of music was made long before west side.
