Should I get my silver filling replaced?

Should I get my silver fillings replaced?? They leave a bluish mark on my teeth. Also does anyone have any advice on what to do for a toothache?? I already went to the dentist. I had a few cavities then, but not on that tooth.

Hi c223,

Here are some home remedies for the toothache. As for the filling, I’ve never heard of it turning the tooth blue, so I would call the dentist to double-check about that.

Rinse with salty water. After each meal and at bedtime, stir 1 teaspoon of salt into an 8-ounce glass of water at body temperature Hold each mouthful, roll it around your mouth. Spit.

Take a “shot” to numb the pain. Hold a swig of whiskey over the painful tooth. Your gums will absorb some of the alcohol and that will numb the pain. Spit out the rest.

Oil up with oil of cloves. People have been using this over-the-counter remedy for many years. Most drugstores carry tiny bottles of the oil. Drop a little directly onto the tooth, or dab a little on a cotton ball and pack the elixir next to the ache.

I can attest to the wonders of cloves–when I had wisdom teeth removed, my doctor pushed clove packs into my jaw to stop the pain. It worked wonders.

Dear c223, If money isn’t too much of an issue here then have your filling replaced with a white one. They are slightly more expensive but if you find you can see the blue filling through the tooth and don’t like that…the white ones are a great option. Sue…good luck
