How-- Can I get a sick note for work from the hospital or does it have to be from your GP?

It is friday night, I have been to the doctors earlier on this week and they told me to go to hospital for x-rays. The doctors is shut all weekend and I need to have a sick note in really soon to my work (McDonalds) or I wont get paid and something bad might happen like getting a warning or maybe even losing my job. Can I go to the hospital for a sick note or does it 100% HAVE to be GP?

Here’s the link about sick notes from the NHS website, http://funadvice.com/r/3kb9c57alp they have actually changed now, and are called fit notes. But it does say on there If you’re under the care of a hospital, your fit note may be issued by the hospital, rather than by your GP.

So if i went into the hospital tonight to get my foot seen to, would they give me a sick note? It’s not getting better :/

here any walk in clinic can issue them not just the hospital there is a nominal fee of ten to twenty $..

but i live in the UK, it’s free but the clinic isn’t open at the weekends and i really need that fit note really soon or something might happen to my job :/ i might lose my job. do you think if i go to the hospital, they would give me one?

From reading that yes. As you would be under the care of the hospital they should be able to issue it. That’s my understanding.

i might go to the hospital with my mum when she gets back from work. she will be home soooon in like 10 mins or so. thank you!

they will give you something that at least confirms you were at the hospital. Im assuming when you get to see a doctor they will write you up something.

Generally it is ok to get a sick note from a hospital as long as it can actually be verified, so make sure that they write it to you on pre-printed hospital paper.
