I AM NOT A TRAINED MEDICAL PERSON. first off you need to consult someone who is. an epileptic seizure can be life threatening if handled incorrectly. you wouldn’t want someone giving you a life or death operation, logging onto funadvice to figure out how to do it. PLEASE CALL A TRAINED PHYSICIAN OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, HER PERSONAL PHYSICIAN WOULD BE A GREAT PLACE TO START, GO WITH HER TO HER NEXT CHECK-UP, AND VOICE YOUR CONCERNS AT THAT TIME TO HER DOCTOR. YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWERS THERE.

I have epilepsy and I can tell you from experience what to do. 1) Don’t try to restrain her or put anything in her mouth to keep her from biting her tongue. 2) Move anything around her that could fall on her or hurt her and loosen her clothing . 3) Once the seizure is over turn her over on her side in case she gets sick. 4) If the seizure last for more that 5 minutes call 911. 5) She will be confused when she starts coming a of the seizure, reassure her and let her know you are there for her and that everything is o k.

  1. If after she starts realizing where she is and what happened, she still isn’t acting right or she has another seizure, seek medical attention.

I live in a recovery project. yesterday we had a new person come in. in the evening he had a seizure. I panicked and didnt know what to do. by the time I calmed down my house mates had got a pillow under his head and on his side there was blood all over the place. I completely freaked put what is there anyway that I can get help so I am more aware and better ways to deal with it when it happens again. I feel very responsiple for him having to been taken in to hospiral due to not being able to keep calm and make sure he was safe. any advise would be great

I have Epilepsy and brian8you is right about trying to get them on their side. I say “try” because if they are having a grand mal seizure, all of the muscles in their body will be tense and ridged so it might be difficult. Never, and I mean, NEVER try to stick anything into the persons mouth. I know a lot of people have heard that you should try this but don’t. They will bite right through it and it could become lodge in their throat and they could die. Especially never your fingers. You will loose them. After she comes out of it. Start by asking her very simple questions like, “Do you know who I am?” or “How old are you?” If might take her awhile but don’t be alarmed if she doesn’t answer right away. Her brain is trying to make itself right again. Seizures are like little electrial storms in the brain. Neurons in the brain firing off at the wronge time in the wrong place basically. You sound like a good guy so hold her and tell her she will be alright. It’s hard to deal with sometimes. Trust me, I know!

You need to be better informed then you can get here!! If anything why dont you ask your girl? Or her family? They all should be very aware of her condition, the type of seizures she has how long they last and what to do after she has one. There are several different types of seizers.. From a slight mental shift to a grand mal on the floor. Most people are very tired after a seizure. But you need to talk to the people who know about her condition!!

Answer #8

Talk to her and ask her family and friends what they have done when she has a seizure. One thing I do know is to move everything out of the way when she is having a seizure to prevent her from knocking things and huting herself.
