To laughymaffy246. I see where you and your teacher is coming from but there’s a reason why the government makes laws. You agreed that wearing a seatbelt saves more lives than kill. If I know that I can save ONE single life by enforcing something, I will do it. That ONE single life can be my sister, brother, Mother, Father, friend, teacher, an innocent child. If the government didn’t make it manditory then a lot more people would die from car accidents.

I have a personal reason why I’m with the government on this. I lost my Mom 6 years ago due to a car accident. My Father and brother was in the car also. They came out with bruises while I lost my Mom just because she didn’t have her seatbelt on PROPERLY. Yes, my brother and my Dad got buises on their neck and shoulders from the seat belt but they didn’t lose their lives. I would much rather my Mom get hurt from the seat belt than to have lost her life.

It is law that you wear your seatbelt but ultimately, it’s really your choice. We don’t get caught 99% of the time that we don’t wear seatbelts. I always wear one and always make sure my passengers wear it before driving because I know that those passenger’s lives are in my hands while I’m behind the wheel. I don’t want to put my family through the heartache and pain of losing another family member for not having their seatbelt on or wearing it improperly. If you don’t want to wear it. Fine. But I stress to you to put children in car seats and seat belts.

This is a big problem in our country. If you can save one single life, I hope you do all that you can to save it. That’s including your own life.

Answer #3

I wear it :)

Answer #4

lol, yes I know it is mandatory (which is why I put it on everytime I see a cop) however, shouldnt I be the one to decide whether I care to live or die?

Answer #5

People probably think its ok because there’s no law that mandates it… I never wear my seatbelt, so probably not, but I always make sure all my passengers are wearing seatbelts…

Answer #6

it can save your life but it can also kill u… a seat belt can actually decapitate u, choke u, or break your neck. I rarely wear a seat belt… not because of that I just dont… so really seat belts can save lives, but also take lives

Answer #7

Jemmysaur and laughymaffy246 are both correct but seat belts save more lives then kill. I guess some people think that it’s safer in the back seat when it really isn’t. I’m sure slamming into the back of a seat is less painful than slamming onto the wind shield but there’s still a good chance of you flying out of the front wind shield even if you are sitting in the back. Too many people die from not wearing their seat belts. I’m a pretty risky person but I wouldn’t risk my life. The thought of my body going 45 MPH (average) through a wind sheild just because I didn’t feel like putting my seat belt on or thinking I’m too cool for seat belts is just pure stupidity.

If you’re old enough to know how to put it on but choose not to, that’s your choice but please put the kids in seat belts. They should have a right to live.

To angel14215, it is manditory that you wear a seat belt in PA (wear I live)… just to let you know.

And I am saying, yes it does save lifes, but it can also cause deaths. And I am not saying that I am perfect or that you should do what I do. I am just telling the truth that I do not use a seat belt, most of the time. I do not think that the person who gave me an unhelpful thought was fair. Yes, you may not agree with me, but still. I was just saying that seat belts do kill people and that I do not wear one. I could have lied and said I do but I didn’t. Just because I do not agree with you, doesn’t mean my thought wasn’t helpful. I am not promoting no seat belts, I am just saying the truth…

I know what all of you are thinking, wow I used proper grammar! haha

Answer #9

I totally agree with you angel14215. That’s what I do also… =) My civics teacher (who is really smart) started talking about this one day. He said that even if something has a slim chance of killing you, the government should not make manditory to use it. Even if the chance is only like 1%. (It’s more than that but I’m just making a point). Because what if you are in a car accident and you die BECAUSE of the seat belt. And if you weren’t wearing it, you would have been injured, but alive. Once again I am not promoting no seat belts, I think it should be your choice… and I know that seat belts save more lives but they ALSO take lives. The chance is not large, but there is still a chance. So I really think it should be your decision.

Answer #10

If you dont wear a seatbelt in the back seat of a car, you’d still be injured or killed if it crashed.

Also, if someone was sitting directly infront and it crashed, you’d hit the chair, and could possibly (or probably) kill the person infront.

It was in some magasine I read.

Answer #11

A seatbelt is a life saving object. I always use mine, even if I’m just going down the road, in the front or back of the car.

There was a public interest commercial in the UK a while ago about ‘belting-up in the back’. The words went :’Like many people, Sue was killed by someone who loved her - her son’, and then it just showed her son flying through the car in a crash situation, and killing her on impact. Apparently the force of even a small body flying forward is enough to kill itself and the one it crashes into.
