if your playing texas holdem, which is the most common poker game, than you try to get 5 cards that actually give you a chance of winning. If this didnt help you than I would suggest to go onto google and type in texas holdem rules and that should tell you every thing you need to know.

Poker is played using a regular 52-card deck. Usually the ace is the highest, but can also be the lowest depending on the rule being played with. Also, wild cards and joker can be added. When there is ask for a showdown every player lays down their cards, comparing who has the higher set of cards. Lastly, if there is a tie the prize money called the pot is shared in equal measure between the hands that have won.
