The phrase “no pun intended” means if you’re talking about something, and at the same time make a joke about it, you would say “no pun intended” to let people know you weren’t trying to make a joke out of it….Really it’s just a play on words and an attempt at trying to be funny…People with a more “dry” sense of humor tend to use it…. A pun is a play on words that’s generally pretty cheesy and lame. For example : “You can rely on high divers because of their deep-end ability.” Ha ha. Ha. Get it? Divers dive into the deep end of a pool, but “deep-end ability” sounds like dependability which is where you can rely on someone and that’s why they said you can rely on divers. I know you just about died laughing when you read this. Anyway, when someone says “no pun intended” they’re acknowledging the fact that they just made a pun. Punny, don’t you think. Get it? That was another pun. Haha.
