oracle is also a software for database management. the big institutions like banks etc store their data in a arranged manner for further use. updating deleting storing sorting becomes easy when you have to deal with a lot of data.

If my memory of history is correct, the most famous Oracle came from Delphi in Greece a couple of thousand years ago.
