When an older guy constantly stares at you does that mean they are a Perv?

Answer #1

You’re obviously not a young female, it is quite obvious when an old guy is staring at you.

Answer #2

Probably. This has been happening since I was 14, it is quite irritating. Just ignore it and refuse to engage.

Answer #3

Lol!! So, if i catch someone staring at me, it makes me a perv?

Answer #4

? I’m thirteen.

Answer #5

I just don’t see how you can know someone is staring (i.e. looking) at you unless you look at that person to be aware of it. The ONLY time you know for certain that someone is looking at you is while you are looking at them. That is my considered analysis of the situation. You may of course believe other people who tell you that the person is staring at you, but likewise they only (at best) have some idea of what he is looking at while they are looking at him.

Answer #6

@ItalianBabe33 are you suggesting that people over a certain age should be required to avert their eyes from certain other people who are of a younger age, while those younger people have free licence to look at who ever they want - as often and for so long as they see fit?

Answer #7

Hmm. We are getting a little defensive? There’s no need to attack the poor girl. There’s a huge difference between looking and staring/leering… as a recipient of both I assure you, it is quite obvious when one is on the receiving end of a not so pleasant look which does not quit. But then you’d have to be a young female being stared at by an older guy to understand.

Answer #8

Just looking or “getting too close for comfort” - i.e. “You are in my space (face)”…

Answer #9

@Ty

Yes I fully understand what you are saying. Even I do not like being stared at in the manner that you describe, and I am sure it is very considerably worse for a woman or young girl.

However, the word “pervert” (“PerV”) is loaded with very serious (possibly libelous / slanderous) value judgments, which in today’s “equal opportunity” culture should work both ways.

The law is meant to protect everybody - not just some small section of the community, and that law has to be phrased in such a manner as to allow older people to keep an eye on younger people (often for their own safety), and sometimes to safeguard property from theft and damage.

It is very common and easy for young children to go around doing what ever they feel like doing (including theft and vandalism) then accuse anyone who watches them committing such crimes as being a pedo..

I am not suggesting that the OP comes into that category, merely that the law should be even-handed as far as possible.

Sadly this may mean that some “Pervs” may get away with ogling young girls - and that is unfortunate, but it is entirely unreasonable to suggest that a girl should be allowed to observe someone else without criticism yet get away with criticizing someone who is doing little different.

You can chose to change “looking” to “leering” / “staring” etc., just as you can change it to “surveillance” / “chaperoning” if you like, but it is still “looking” at the end of the day and it is in my opinion a dangerous road to take if one starts arbitrarily labeling someone as a pervert for looking at someone.

Answer #10

I changed the word ‘’looking” into “staring”? Perhaps you misread the question. Let me quote ‘When an older guy constantly STARES at you does that mean they are a PerV?’. You changed the word stare into look. And you brought up the word pedo.phile. Given her age, it wouldnt be accurate anyhow. She is talking about someone staring inappropriately, there’s a huge difference between a manager (or someone in that position) checking to see if a teen is shoplifting or up to no good, and an old guy staring inappropriately. Most of us know when we’re being looked at suspiciously in a store and when an old guy is not being appropriate.

Answer #11

Well, does he keep looking away when you look at him? If the answer is yes, then yes.

Answer #12

It depends on the situation… With no background information, I picture an elderly man sitting in a store and looking at you. A lot of the elderly men around here will sit on the store benches while their wives shop. How boring… When I have to sit for long periods of time, I will stare at things as well. If some person walks by and is doing something strange/interesting, I will look at them. What were you doing at the time? Anything that would make someone who was bored out of their mind look at you? I agree with majikthise, throwing around accusations like that is harsh and could get someone in trouble who doesn’t deserve it. I’m a girl and I totally understand the creepy looks guys can give, but I know that my behavior can cause the looks. There’s also the issue of what you were wearing. Please don’t take offense to this if you weren’t showing tons of skin… But, if you were wearing something that would turn on a young person, chances are it’ll turn on an older person too, whether the older person likes that it catches their eye or not.

Answer #13

I’m pretty sure he is thinking about sex. JS.

Answer #14

Answer #17

Answer #18

Not really, old guys stare at me all the time does not always mean they are looking at me in a certain way, meaby they are just caught in deep though while looking at you, but it has nothing to do with you. But then again he could be a perv, just ignore it, not much you can do.
