Nobles and Commoners during the medieval times?

We watched an old version of the movie Robinhood in school and my teacher says we have a big test coming soon about how the government was set up. So I just have a few questions.

Who were the Nobles? What were they like? How did they treat the commoners? Why did they treat them like this? Who were the commoners? What were they like? How were they to the nobles?

It would be greatlyyy appreciated if you could answer these questions for me (: Thanks. And I have no idea what category to put this in. So.

Answer #1

The nobles were the ones high up and in control. The commoners were slaves, people who did the nobles’ dirty work. Real life example: Noble= George Bush Commoner= Soldier in Iraq

Answer #2

If you’ve got a test coming up, forget about current politics and have a look at some sites with information on the ‘feudal system’, as it’s generally called:

www.historyonthenet.com/Medieval_Life/feudalism.htm library.thinkquest.org/J0110522/feudal_system.htm
www.mce.k12tn.net/middleages/feudalsystem.htm and www.castles.me.uk/medieval-feudal-system.htm

It was a little more complex than just nobles and commoners, because there were many different ‘stations’ or positions in life, according to your birth. There were different ranks among the nobles, and among the commoners there were free peasants and craftsmen, for example, but also bondsmen and slaves. But the sites above will give you lots of neutral info.

Good luck with a fascinating subject!
