How to get my parents to chill about my shopping choices?

I like shopping at hot topic. there is nothing wrong with that. my parents think that I am going goth. how do I get my point across to them that I just like to shop there without them shoving me out?

Answer #1

The parent in me says I wouldn’t want my daughter to wear clothes like that because it could lead to the darkside influence (downward spiral) in life - I want only positive influences in her life - I think they’re looking after your best interests…be thankful they care, many, many don’t IMHO

Parents are weird and will never understand what young teens/adults go through. Im a black female and i too like shopping at hot topic. so of course people think im crazy as ever. They really have some cute stuff in there, i mean the music is horrible but the accessories and shoes are cute.

well i had the same problem bc my parents (well, at least my mum) was concerned about me turning goth/emo w.e but eventually my parents got over it probably thou bc they know that ive already gone through that ‘phase’ in my life and am moving on but it also doesnt hurt that they never go to the mall with me ne more :] so just give it time and prove to ur parents that they dont need to worry. u just like the store (and who could blame you?!) and that its not ganna influence u to do ne thing bad. but i guess they are just worried that its ganna turn u into some dark satanic wrist slashing beast or w.e (which btw is total bull) but thats besides the point. just give it time and in the mean time, why do they NEED to kno u shop there ;]

God wants you to honor your parents and obey them, not dishonor them and disobey them. Maybe it’s time you started shopping the way they want you to shop. My parents and I have a compromise: If the clothes are too tight, show too much skin, or give out a negative message, I don’t get them. There are some great, modest clothing items out there. Give them (and your parents) a chance!!!
