My dog licks her foot

My 6 year old dog eont stop licking the bottom of her foot like realy really hard and its not just one its all of them all depending on which side she was laying on– I havent had her nails cut in like 3 months – could that be it

Answer #1

Do not rule out a yeast infection on the foot. Take your dogs foot, spread its toes, and get in there with your nose and smell. If it smells like yeast (yes just like baking yeast), then your dog needs it cleaned with antibacterial cream or wipes. This could lead to a pretty nasty infection which will cripple your dog if left unchecked.

Good Luck

Answer #2

Try bathing your dog in a sulfur based shampoo and follow up with a oatmeal based conditoner. If it is skin allergies then these will help. My dog does the same thing when she needs a bath. Also, get her nails clipped!

Answer #3

Dogs are also attracted to smelly things. Maybe she has a smelly foot.

Answer #4

I doubt it…licking feet specifically can be a sign of allergies…Maybe keep some bitter apple (or one part Listerine, mixed with 4 parts distilled water in a spray bottle) keep it around to discourage the licking…they can lick right thru the top layer of skin, and then you’ll really have a problem on your hands.
