My dad committed suicide

Over the summer my dad killed himself…now I feel like part of me is missing. I have the most amazing friends in the world, and I know theyll always be there for me, but I have a really hard time trusting guys. I feel really bad, cus I can be a total b*tch to most of the guys that like me. I dont mean to, its just really hard for me to trust them. studies have shown that girls usually like guys that are like their fathers, so im really scared that im going to get hurt again. how can I trust people again???

All I can say to you is to let it go. That’s the past this is the present. I know it’s not easy but you can make it. You’ve made it this far.

You can’t start trusting people again overnight and forget about everything that happened like magic. It takes time. I think you need to take the time to grieve the loss of your Dad. Think of all great things your Dad did, and the not-so-great things. You need to accept him and what he did, good or bad, because he was your Dad. Your one and only Dad.

You might date guys in the future who is like your Dad, but they are not going to be 100% your Dad. They will only have small qualities like you Dad, like lame jokes that he recycles over and over, or his love for cars etc for example.

It helps to talk to your date that you might have trouble trusting guys because of what your Dad did, and if he loves you he will do his best to help you through it and assure you that he will not hurt you in any way. When you’re in a relationship, the key to success to keep it going is communication. If a couple doesn’t communicate properly, you will never know where you stand in a relationship.
