My Cell Phone

Help! My cell phone just fell in the bathtub. What do I do? It’s not working properly… Can I use a hair dryer set to cool on it???

Answer #1

You need to remove the battery first You can try blow drying it for about 10 minutes

According to wisegeek.com: If you drop your cell phone in water that isn’t pure such as a beverage or in salt water, rinse the phone off with fresh water once you have removed the battery. Once you drop the phone in water, the additional rinsing will not do further damage, however, minerals or other materials will.

If you drop your cell phone in liquid that isn’t pure water, you may want to try giving it an alcohol bath. The alcohol will displace minerals and microscopic substances as well as aiding in the evaporation of the fluid. If it is available, you should use an alcohol concentration of 95% rather than rubbing alcohol that usually contains only 70%.

Once your phone is clean, leave it in a warm dry area or near an air conditioner for three days before you attempt to replace the battery and turn it on. This is very important, because although you may think that you have thoroughly dried it, the slightest moisture can react with the battery and cause it to short circuit. If drop your cell phone in water, and want to save it, resist the temptation of turning it on to see if it is working until you have waited at least 72 hours.

Note: I have heard you can put it in a container of dry rice for 12 hours to draw out the water.

Take care !!

Answer #3

well thats really bad because that could mean that your phone is messed up and that I could stop working right. well at least you learned a lesson 4rom this

Answer #4

Take the battery out, take the sim card out then you need to place it in a bowl of rice and leave it in the heating/airing cupboard over night. The rice takes all the moisture out of it and hopefully it should work again tomorrow.

Do not bother ringing the company that sold you the phone to get a replacement- your phone insurance does not cover water damage.

Answer #5

First Take Battery Out Second dry all the wet off Then put it in a warm place , like ariing cuboard (crnt spell it) where you keep towels, and spare sheets , good luckk anyway why play with your phone while in the bath:L

Answer #6

Thank you very much for the advice. I think I’ve heard about the rice thing…I’ll give it a try. I did blow dry it and it helped some.

I wasn’t using the phone in the bath. I was drawing a bath for my daughter and it fell out of my pocket. Definitely lesson learned =)
