MUSIC: You dig mainstream...why?

Why exactly do people dig music from Rihanna and the like? On the flipside, why do some people shun away this kind of music? And if ever one doesn’t listen to the mainstream and prefers a more sensible sound, why does he/she have to labelled “different”?

It’s just personal preference, that’s it. I don’t even think “different” is possible anymore.
