How can my mom find a job if she's over 50?

She’s been looking for work for about two years now and I know it’s harder to find a job if you’re over 50. I want her to find something but I don’t know what I can do to help since I’m only 15. Any good tips that maybe I can pass along to her or any suggestions?

Answer #1

I’ve seen people over 50 working at Wal-Mart, dollar stores, schools, etc… Does she have any experience, or education?

Answer #2

Like any other person finds jobs!

Answer #3

She has a degree in psychology I know that.

Answer #4

Gee thanks

Answer #5

If she can’t find a good job, then she needs to look lower and maybe go into work in a shop or supermarket. Her age will give her life experience far from the other teens working there, and she will be quick to get a promotion if she works well.

Answer #6

try Giant or Food Lion :o…. my parents are in their late 40’s and they are self employed and clean buidings.

Has she worked in anything when she was younger? Like if she worked in medicine, she can work in healthcare. Also government jobs hire people with many experience. Maybe she can try applying for something if she’s got a degree. I think the best for her would be working in social services or non profit organizations like YMCA. Tip: When she goes for job interviews, she should look enthusiastic and full of energy. Her attitude will impact how she’s seen. Has she thought about applying as a secretary? At 50, it’s a job that would be great for her. She can sit around and do work too. Even applying at a local library. If she’s good at writing she could work from home for a newspaper and write articles. Many hospitals or schools need registered nurses so perhaps she can try that out too. Another tip, when she’s writing her resume, use strong words that emphasize her previous working history. Check the local newspaper for anyone wanting jobs too. :-)

Kat…keep on praying!

Answer #9

Cool! I’ll mention it to her. Thanks!

Answer #10

She can try to look in places like libraries, and schools, some websites, and places like that. Does she have something she wants to find in particular. She can work something like a school councelor or stuff like that would accept her because of her degree in phychology. She can find a job as a CNA, I have known a lot of people with that job that are over 50 working as that, and if she has to study for it, it would only be like a 4 month processes. She can work in a child care place too, they accept people over 50 too most of the time. Other than that she can work in places like stores, in food places, cleaning meaby?
