I’m 46 years old, how can I speed up my metabolism?

Answer #1

excercise. any kind. low impact. 20 minutes minimum 3 times a day. consistently for 4 months. (it takes 60-120 days to replace most of the cells in yoru body.)

Sorry, but the bottom line is exercise.

Metabolism really means the rate at which your body processes …ANYTHING… It is like the freeway speed limit of your own body.

Answer #2

Eat every 4-5 hours, smaller meals, eat protein with every meal, 3 oz of skinless chicken, turkey breast, loin, fish, skim milk, non fat yogurt, eggs, tofu, beans and lentils. Every time you eat your metabolism increases. Try adding thermogenic foods they raise your metabolism, like cayenne peppers, salsa, hot peppers, atabasco, mustard or chili sauce, 8 - 16 oz glases of ice cold water, green tea, and veggies like cabbage, celery, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, berries and oatmeal. And you must include exercise, 4-5 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes, 1 hour of walking/jogging will help alot, but you need a program that includes setts of resistance training, aerobics, to target all muscle groups and get your body moving, smaller portions and more exercise!

Answer #3

123nmd is right, “exercise” is about the only way. Try some brisk walking every day and the key is “brisk”. Don’t mosey or stroll but walk somewhat fast for 20-30 minutes. ( walk like you’re in a hurry to get somewhere.) If you’re not use to it start off with about 15 min and work up to 30 min over a couple weeks time. It’s not the distance that counts but getting your heart rate up flips a switch in your body that changes the body’s priority for burning calories.
